Adam Paulek Biography
I have been working with clay for over 10 years, starting at Buena Vista University in Iowa, my home state (B.A. in Art & Education 1999). I apprenticed under Hank Goodman for 2 years in Asheville, NC and then earned my Masters of Fine Arts, focusing in Ceramics, from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 2004. For 3 years afterward, I built up a business with artist studios, gallery, classes and workshops in an old warehouse in downtown Knoxville. This “Mighty Mud Studios and Gallery” was bought by a local artist and is now a thriving multidisciplinary art community with over 20 local artists and several annual shows. I taught ceramics there through 2009 before leaving Knoxville to move to and build a new home studio in Farmville VA.
I have also taught art courses at the Chautauqua Institution (NY), the University of Tennessee, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts (Gatlinburg TN), and presented workshops at University of North Carolina Asheville, Maryville College (TN), University of Tennessee Professional Development Program, Appalachian Craft Guild (Norris TN), and several state Art Education Association conferences. My work has been in several galleries throughout the country, and is also exhibited at craft shows and occasional home sales.
