Santa Fe

Painting mixed media on metal train
22 x 67 x 17 in

The characters on this car are based off of the 1950’s Disney short cartoon, The Brave Engineer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Brave_Engineer) which I remember watching quite a bit as a kid. Here I have depicted “Casey Jones" admiring a piece painted on the side of the boxcar with a runaway locomotive heading off. The smoke from the engine I used as the sky for the fill in the piece, which is a desert scene to tie in with the Santa Fe logo. On the reverse side of the train I have a moniker of Colossus of Roads, who I finally met in Arkansas this year. He’s an old railroad worker who has tagged tens of thousands of trains and has been writing on them since 1971 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aklYgZrF6U). There is also a a “Casey Jones” hobo tag on the reverse.
